SUMMARY OF CONTRIBUTIONS
I was brought onto this project as Level Designer and given the responsibility of creating the 7 proposed levels for the game. These "levels" are, in actuality, entire segments of the game consisting of at least 1 town, and up to 3 overworld exploration segments each. Portions of some of these levels had existing designs (sketches or very primitive greyboxing), but required heavy revamping alongside a full refresh of art assets.
My new and redesigned levels featured the following:
-
Points of Interest
-
Improved guidance
-
Hidden collectibles
-
Environmental storytelling
-
Enhanced set dressing

Medically Accurate Level Design
The levels in Medimon directly represent medical terminology, and often require level layout decisions to be governed by actual biological layout. This creates an interesting design challenge in which the levels must be laid out in a specific manner, but still be governed by fun level design principles and proper guidance for players.
For example Level 4 contains two connected areas representing the heart and lungs. The area illustrates the flow of blood through the heart (represented as a national park) and the resulting oxygenation of the blood as it travels to the lungs (represented by a vineyard) and back to the heart. The player travels through these areas generally the same way the blood would, however, each area (atrium/ventricle, etc.) has its own tasks, quests and way of exploring.
Through exploring these areas and becoming familiar with them, players also learn the layout of the real organs, as well as how they interact/connect with one another.

Level 4-4 Airy Abbey - Vineyard themed around the lungs

Grapes in the vineyard represent "Alveolar" of the lungs
(Notice the pipes bringing blood to/from the "lung" area)

Level 4-3 Cruente Park - National park themed around the heart
(Notice the layout similarities to the heart diagram)
